MICHAEL PATRICK: Products liability cases are cases where a product is defective or has been poorly designed and that defect causes injury to a person or perhaps kills a person or causes damage to other property.
Products liability cases can come up in a lot of areas. Some of the examples of the products cases I've handled included medical devices that have broken after they've been implanted in a patient, causing further injury to them; safety devices in cars and vehicles that have failed to protect the passengers when in an accident; machinery at a worksite that has broken or causing injury to industrial workers.
In a products case, we're typically working with engineers or other experts to examine the defective product to determine what went wrong or why the design failed.
